Product description

A barbuta (also known as barbute, which literally means "bearded" in Italian, possibly because the wearer's beard remained visible) is a visorless war helmet from the 15th century, designed in Italy. The helmet often features a distinctive T-shaped or Y-shaped opening for the eyes and mouth. This helmet is based on a 15th-century barbuta from northern Italy. A similar barbuta is part of the collection at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Decorative brass rivets adorn the upper edge, while steel rivets reinforce the borders. Additionally, a subtle ridge runs along the rounded skull. The interior is fitted with an adjustable, padded cotton canvas liner. Leather straps ensure the helmet stays securely in place when fastened under the chin.
