For this look, we took inspiration from the DnD class Paladin, who took the Oath of the Ancients.
Cedric, originally a humble farmer tending to his family's land, had always felt a deep connection to the natural world. One fateful day, while exploring the nearby forest, he stumbled upon a sinister threat lurking in the shadows—a corrupted grove, its ancient trees twisted and tainted by dark forces. Witnessing the desecration of the land, he felt an overwhelming sense of duty and swore to protect the beauty and purity of the natural world. Cedric embarked on a quest to become a paladin of the Oath of the Ancients, dedicated to cleansing the land of darkness and ensuring the flourishing of all living things. As Cedric honed his newfound powers, he remained a guardian of the forest, vowing to defend it against any who sought to harm it.
We wanted to show his progress from a young farmer boy, to a full fledged paladin who’s found his calling.
Farmer boy
Young Cedric always had a love for nature. Often wandering around the forest, taking notes and making sketches of the things he sees. He’s wearing a relatively basic, medieval inspired outfit.
Tunic
A young farm boy wouldn’t be dressed particularly fancy, so a basic medieval tunic or shirt works perfect for the base of such a look. A basic tunic like this one was very common during the middle ages, but also in Ancient Rome. When layered with an undertunic, this tunic would also be perfect for a viking or germanic look, so it’s very versatile.

Fur collar
When in the outdoors, some form of protection from the elements is essential. When the weather isn’t too cold or wet, a cloak might be a bit too much. In such cases, a fur collar is a great alternative.

Leather diary
Our young paladin has a great love for the forest and all that lives in it. To learn more about different plants and animals, he takes notes and makes sketches of everything that catches his eye. He always carries a small, leather diary with him for this purpose.

Early stage Paladin
After having come across a situation that threatened the forest, Cedric, in despair, took the Oath of the Ancients, starting his journey into becoming the warden of the forest. At this point in his journey, he’s still wearing his original clothing, but had to start adding to it in order to survive training and fights.
Undertunic
Now that he is starting to wear some armor, he needs more padding to wear underneath. By wearing an undertunic, he has an extra layer of clothing to make the armor a bit more comfortable to wear and to slightly dampen any blows he takes. Because it’s not too thick, it doesn’t limit movement.

Cuirass
Having only just left his farm and still learning how to become a fighter, full armor isn’t something our young protagonist can afford. One of the most important parts of the body to protect during a fight, is the torso. A cuirass covers both the front and back of the torso, so that’s the first thing our farmer boy purchased in his journey to become a Paladin.

Arm harness
The arms are an easy target during a swordfight, which makes arm protection essential. Steel arm harnesses, like our up and coming paladin is wearing, are one way to protect the arms. A paladin on a budget can also start with leather vambraces or with vambraces that have vertical metal strips on them.

Full armour Paladin
After years of training, the Paladin is now the warden of the forest from his youth. Making sure nobody harms the forest and the creatures living in it. Cedric’s even wearing even more armor, has moved from a stick to a sword and you can also see nature itself becoming part of his gear.
Helmet
Now that he has grown into an experienced Paladin, he needs more protection than before. His battles are heavier and the risk of injury has increased. To protect his head, the paladin wears a closed helmet to protect both the head and the neck

Sword
In order to protect the forest, Cedric fights with an extremely large sword. With this sword he can deal his opponents great blows and is nearly undefeatable. However, we understand that a sword this size isn’t for everyone. Luckily, it’s also available in 2 other, smaller sizes.

Gauntlets
When fighting with swords, the hands are in a very vulnerable position. They are easy for the opponent to hit, so it’s important to protect them. Our paladin is wearing carbon steel gauntlets, to make sure his hands won’t sustain injuries during his fights.
An alternative to full gauntlets are half gauntlets, which you can wear over leather gloves.
