The fantasy genre is very broad in world building, races and characters. Pretty much everything is possible. Still there are a lot of recurring races in fantasy of which elves are one. Elves come in many varieties, such as dark elves, high elves and wood elves. For this Get the Look blog, we’re going to show you one of the many ways you can create a wood elf look.
Cloak
A must-have item for fantasy looks is the cloak. It’s a versatile piece of clothing that can be used for many different types of fantasy characters. It’s not only a practical item to have, but it can also add a bit more drama or impact to a look.

Top
For the top we felt that a blouse wouldn’t quite read Wood Elf. When you make a Wood Elf outfit with trousers as bottoms, a tunic would be a great option. But a tunic with a shorter skirt doesn’t really work. For this outfit, we created a bandeau top out of a scarf, which works great.

Skirt
Wood elves are often depicted as more ranger-like elves. They don’t usually wear long, flowy dresses (unless it’s for a feast) but clothing that’s more practical and easy to move around in. This suede leather skirt has some nice, stitched detailing. This, together with the shape and colour, makes it a perfect option for a wood elf look. If you prefer to have your legs covered, you could also easily style this over a pair of leggings or tight trousers.

Belt
Elven are known to have accessories with beautiful, elegant details. It can be hard to find the right belt for an elven look. This belt has a gorgeous shape buckle, but might come across as a bit too gothic medieval. By experimenting with how you wear a belt, you can hide some of the less elvish details, while still showing the elegant shape of the buckle. For example by tucking the belt end away, underneath the belt itself or into the skirt.

Greaves
As mentioned before, Wood elves are generally depicted as rangers. This means they move around the woods a lot and might encounter a battle on occasion. By adding some leather armour to the lower legs you can emphasise the ranger vibe in an outfit. Ofcourse, you can also use other or more leather armour as you see fit.

Dagger
Elves, and especially Wood elves, are stereotypically archers. However, you also can use other weapons for an elven look. Daggers are a great alternative for when you don’t want to (or can’t) carry around a bow all day.

Spear
A weapon less commonly associated with elves is the spear. However, it is definitely a wonderful weapon to use for an elven look. The spears used on the pictures in this blog are actually handmade, and thus not for sale. But there are plenty of options for spears, both in LARP weapons and made from wood and steel.

Antlers
Wood elves, obviously, live in the woods and forest. There are many, many ways to show that connection to nature and woodland in an outfit. The right materials and colours can already set the forest-y vibe, but you can also add some accessories that are associated with the woods. Antlers can be used in different ways in a Wood elf look. In this case, they are tied to her belt, but they can also be worn as a necklace, hair accessory, etc.
