Every story and every game has NPCs. Live-action role-playing (LARP), fantasy games and role playing games such as DnD feature popular non-player characters or non-game characters (NPCs). They direct the players in a direction, give quests or complete the game. Here is an overview of the most common non-player characters. In LARP, these characters are played by people usually from the organization. NPCs are also very suitable to use as inspiration for your costume.

Tavern Keepers

These NPCs often run inns, taverns, or other gathering places where players can interact, collect information, or buy supplies.

Quest Givers

These NPCs provide players with missions, tasks, or quests to undertake during the LARP. They can be anything from wise sages to mysterious figures with important information.

Merchants

NPCs that sell various goods, equipment, and items to players. They may have specialized wares depending on the LARP setting, such as blacksmiths, apothecaries, or sellers of magical items.

Townsfolk/Villagers

These NPCs populate the game world and represent the common people of a town or city. They can provide atmosphere, opportunities for role-playing or small quests.

Faction Leaders

NPCs who represent leaders of various factions, guilds, or organizations within the LARP world. They can provide players with guidance, alliances, or missions related to their particular fact.

Monsters and Creatures

NPCs that portray various creatures, beasts, or monsters that players may encounter on their adventures. These NPCs can range from humble foot soldiers to powerful bosses.

Guards and Enforcers

NPCs who act as protectors of key locations, such as city guards, palace guards, or faction enforcers. They can enforce rules, initiate combat encounters, or serve as quest obstacles.

Mysterious Figures

NPCs with hidden motives or secrets, often playing a central role in LARP's storyline. They can be mentors, seers, or even adversaries, adding intrigue and mystery to the game.
