Product description
This helmet was worn by the elite of the Athenian infantry. Hoplites were soldiers who carried spears which were 2,5 metres long and they were known for their phalanx-formation. The equipment of a hoplite was standardized, so only those who could pay for such an equipment were able to become such a warrior. The shape of the helmet differed from city-state to city-state. This is a Thracian model that had a wide field of view, unlike the Corinthian ones, because only the cheeks had to be protected.
This helmet is delivered including an inlay for wearing comfort. It is suitable for a head circumference up to 61 cm and it weighs 2,5 kg. Therefore one can understand why hoplites put on their equipment (about 24 kg) just before the beginning of the battle.

Tip: How to adjust the finish of your armour and weaponry
Luxurious (polished)- polish the steel with metal polish or toothpaste. You can even give the item a mirror-like polish. Test on a small surface first!
Handmade (matte)- soak the steel in cola for 40 minutes to 20 hours. Check regularly and treat with black sandpaper.
Antique (patinated) leave the steel to rust for some time in a damp environment, preferably outside. Remove the red layer of rust, to reveal the corroded top layer.
