Product description

The spear, the dory, was the primary spear of the hoplites in ancient Greece and a symbol of martial identity. The spear was used in the phalanx formations and was originally 2-3 meters long. Later, after the 3rd century BC, spears of up to 6 meters in length were used. In classical antiquity, the spear was more often associated with nobility and heroes than the sword. In various Proto-Indo-European mythologies, war gods such as Odin, Ares, Athena, and Mars were often depicted with spears, and many legendary weapons, such as Gungnir (Odin), the Gáe Bolg (Cú Chulainn), and Achilles' spear, played a central role in stories. In Rome, the spear also had legal and ritual significance, such as in declarations of war and military honors. This set consists of a spearhead and butt cap. The butt cap was used to fix the spear in the ground and could also serve as a secondary thrusting weapon.
