Product description
Geraldus Cambrensis, Gerald of Wales, was present during the Norman invasion of Ireland. He wrote about the Irishmen that they take an axe wherever they go out of habit, like a staff. ?This weapon does not have to be greased like a sword, tensed like a bow or poisoned like a spearhead. Without any preparation the Irishman is ready to give deadly blows with his axe that are able to behead a horse.?
The Irish axe was longer than a Viking axe and was frequently used by Celtic infantrymen. The original of this replica originates from approx. the 16th century. The end of the handle is finished with brass. The axe has a length of 127 cm and has a head of 29 cm. It weighs approx. 2,4 kg.
