Product description

Although Edward of Woodstock (1330-1376, also known as The Black Prince, the eldest son and heir of King Edward III of England, died prematurely and never ascended the English throne, he was praised by his contemporaries as a model of chivalry. His achievements as an English commander during the Hundred Years’ War between England and France earned him a place among the greatest knights of his time. This elegant, heavy medieval belt we offer here is a reconstruction of his hip belt (or so-called arse-girdle) as represented on his true-to-life gilt bronze tomb effigy, which can still be admired in the Canter-bury Cathedral in Kent, England (see last picture above).

This approx. 6 cm wide belt is composed of a thick leather core encased in an additional, thinner, black leather layer that is stitched at the back. Just like on the original effigy, it is adorned with a series of blue enamelled disc-shaped plates made of brass that feature a lion’s head. The quatrefoil-shaped belt buckle, also made of blue enamelled brass, features a standing heraldic lion (so-called lion statant guardant). The knight’s belt is available in three sizes and does not have any punch holes. The back of the buckle is equipped with a pin that anchors into the hole in the end tip.

Maintenance & care
Just as with weaponry, you can care for your shoes and leatherware by applying a little Ballistol after cleaning. This prevents the leather from drying out.

When packaging this item, we exclusively use 100% recycled plastic and recycled paper/cardboard from FSC certified forests. We reuse a large part of the material directly without the intervention of a recycling process.
Recycle the material by separating your waste:
1. Cardboard: separate or reuse your paper.
2. Plastic cushions, clothing bags and plastic tape: separate or reuse your plastic. If possible, pierce the cushions with a volume reduction needle.
3. Paper packaging for jewelry and small items: these have a plastic inner layer. Remove these, then separate your paper and plastic.
