Product description

This elegant, heavy medieval belt we offer here is a reconstruction of a hip belt (or so-called arse-girdle) as seen on the figure of King Arthur on the Schöner Brunnen (“Beautiful Fountain”) in Nuremberg, Germany. The Schöner Brunnen, designed in the shape of a Gothic church spire, was built from 1385 to 1396. The fountain is adorned with forty painted figures representing the worldview of the Holy Roman Empire, including the so-called Nine Worthies (in German Neun Helden – the “Nine Heroes”) as representatives of pagan antiquity (Hector of Troy, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar), Judaism (Judas Maccabeus, David, Joshua) and Christianity (King Arthur, Charlemagne, Godfrey of Bouillon). In the courtly chivalric milieu of the 14th century, this group of historical, biblical or legendary heroes embodied the ideals of chivalry established in the Middle Ages.

As the figures were made of sandstone, the fountain had to undergo several restorations over the centuries, until the surviving remains of the Gothic original were eventually transferred to the Germanisches Nationalmuseum (Germanic National Museum) in Nuremberg in the 19th century, where they can still be admired today. The fountain that stands on Nuremberg's main market square today, with its colourful figures, is a replica that was rebuilt in 1912 based on the weathered original. Our approx. 6 cm wide belt is composed of a thick leather core encased in an additional, thinner, black leather layer that is stitched at the back. Just like the statue of King Arthur in Nuremberg, it is adorned with a series of square plates and a quatrefoil-shaped belt buckle, all made of brass and featuring a floral motif. The knight’s belt is available in three sizes and does not have any punch holes. The back of the buckle is equipped with a pin that anchors into the hole in the end tip.

Maintenance & care
Just as with weaponry, you can care for your shoes and leatherware by applying a little Ballistol after cleaning. This prevents the leather from drying out.

When packaging this item, we exclusively use 100% recycled plastic and recycled paper/cardboard from FSC certified forests. We reuse a large part of the material directly without the intervention of a recycling process.
Recycle the material by separating your waste:
1. Cardboard: separate or reuse your paper.
2. Plastic cushions, clothing bags and plastic tape: separate or reuse your plastic. If possible, pierce the cushions with a volume reduction needle.
3. Paper packaging for jewelry and small items: these have a plastic inner layer. Remove these, then separate your paper and plastic.
