Product description
Leather jackets of this type were worn from the early 16th to the mid-17th century by those working outdoors, such as gamekeepers, seafarers, and soldiers. Leather jackets (jerkins) replaced earlier arming doublets and were worn as an underlayer beneath plate armour. Like later arming doublets, this garment was also popular for civilian wear or for use outside a military context. They afforded the wearer a rugged, masculine appearance whilst providing good protection against the elements. From the 17th century, the buff coat evolved from this garment, becoming exclusively a military piece.
The Tilly doublet is crafted from robust leather and is well-suited to portraying both strict and adventurous characters. Particularly well-suited to a LARP gathering or medieval festival. The shoulders protrude slightly, which underlines the elegant style. The doublet may be fastened by means of the button closure at the front. Leather is a natural product and can absorb dyes in different ways. The actual hue may differ from the picture.
