Product description

This holder is a replica of a 12th century original. Kindling holders like this were often used in areas rich in peat. This holder is handmade of iron. This kindling holder is made after an original excavated in Ireland. Nowadays it is part of the county museum of Waterfort.

Kindling is one of the earliest methods of lighting and was used until the modern era. A hardwooden kindle was clamped in the holder after which it could be carried around or placed on the table.
The kindle is a piece of wood that was mined in the peat fields. It is a byproduct of peat harvesting. The kindle is impregnated with peat to very inflammable.

This item is produced in limited quantities only. This means that every piece is unique. Sizes & finish may vary lightly from piece to piece.
