Product description

The Anglo Saxon king Harold Godwinson was the successor of Edward the Confessor in january 1066. Directly after his coronation his brothers Tostig and Harald Haldrada of Norway started a war primarily aimed at reconquering the former Danelaw.

Harolds army was defeated during the Battle of Fulford at 20 September 1066. However, this defeat was not decisive and Harold defeated the combined invasion army from the Norse Vikings just a few days before another Norman invasion army would cross the canal. William the Conqueror had planned his expedition very well. He travelled to South England where the army of Harold, weary after the Battle of Stamford Bridge and after proceeding to the south by marching in a high speed. King Harold was killed during the Battle of Hastings in October 1066. This marks the end of the Anglo-Saxon reign over England.
