Product description

A luxurious and beautiful Roman helmet, a masterpiece for your Roman helmet collection. This is a replica of an original from 50-75 AD. which was found around 1870 in Witcham Gravel, England. The original is currently on display at the British Museum, London. It is classified as a Roman auxiliae cavalry type B helmet and is the only surviving example of the type B helmets. It also has characteristics of the Imperial galea. The helmet is made of 1.2mm (18 gauge) steel with brass centerpiece and decorations. The cheek flaps have rings so that you can use a leather lace for fastening the helmet. The yellow helmet crest, or crista, is based on an example in the Ars Tactica by the Greek historian Arrian. The helmet crest is made of real horsehair and is delivered including 3 screws for attaching it to the helmet, the holes in the helmet are already pre-drilled.

Maintenance & care
Prevent rust and corrosion by oiling your armour regularly. Remove rust easily with black sandpaper.

Choosing the size that fits you best
Add 3,5 cm to your head circumference if you wear an arming cap under your helmet.
Add 2,5 cm to your head circumference if you wear a chainmail coif under your helmet.
Add 6 cm to your head circumference if you wear both an arming cap and a chainmail coif under your helmet.

Tip: How to adjust the finish of your armour and weaponry
Luxurious (polished)- polish the steel with metal polish or toothpaste. You can even give the item a mirror-like polish. Test on a small surface first!
Handmade (matte)- soak the steel in cola for 40 minutes to 20 hours. Check regularly and treat with black sandpaper.
Antique (patinated) leave the steel to rust for some time in a damp environment, preferably outside. Remove the red layer of rust, to reveal the corroded top layer.
