Product description
This single-handed sword has a length of approx. 90 cm and a blade of 72 cm and a max. width of 5 cm. The simple decorated pommel and the cross-guard were typical for their era. The cross-guard is slightly bended for parrying enemy blows. The wooden grip is covered with leather for a good grip.
Type XIV is the last sword in Oakeshotts typification that was meant for piercing chainmail. It has a short, wide and pointy blade. The profile is quite flat and sometimes has a small middle rib. The fuller covers half of the blade and is quite wide, but some fullers are narrow. The grip has a length of 9,5 to 11,5 cm and a thick part of the blade continues into the pommel. The pommel is always round, sometime wide and flat. The cross-guard is quite wide and often bended. Type XIV has a functional tip and because of its blade it is suitable for both hitting and stabbing. Swords of type XIV were popular between 1260 and 1340, but just a few originals have been excavated.
This sword is an Oakeshott type XIV.

Tip: How to adjust the finish of your armour and weaponry
Luxurious (polished)- polish the steel with metal polish or toothpaste. You can even give the item a mirror-like polish. Test on a small surface first!
Handmade (matte)- soak the steel in cola for 40 minutes to 20 hours. Check regularly and treat with black sandpaper.
Antique (patinated) leave the steel to rust for some time in a damp environment, preferably outside. Remove the red layer of rust, to reveal the corroded top layer.
Please note. After finishing the product yourself, the warranty and return right expire. Celtic WebMerchant is not responsible for the obtained result.
