Product description

This beautiful sword is a replica of the Imperial Sword of the Holy Roman Empire. As it is also associated with Saint Maurice, it is also known as Mauritiusschwert. This sword is part of the Imperial Regalia of the Roman-German Kings and Emperors and was given to the Emperor along with the other Imperial Regalia during a coronation. The original is displayed in the Imperial Treasury at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, Austria.

This replica sword has a long, double-edged blade that tapers slightly towards the tip and has a fuller along about two thirds of its length. The edges are not sharpened. The cross-shaped hilt ends in a Brazil-nut pommel made of brass and engraved with the arms of Holy Roman Emperor Otto IV. The pommel also bears the inscription "BENEDICTVS . Do(minv)S . DE(v)S . QVI . DOCET . MANV(s)+" (“Blessed be the Lord my God, who teaches the hand [to wield]”).

The crossguard is also inscribed on both sides with Latin inscriptions taken from the Laudes Regiae "CHRISTVS - VINCIT - CHRISTVS - REIGNAT - CHRISTVS - INPERAT" ("Christ conquers - Christ reigns - Christ commands") The last part "CHRISTVS - INPERAT" is only engraved on one side of the quillons.

This medieval one-handed sword comes complete with a wooden scabbard wrapped in high-quality, ochre-coloured leather. Two adjustable loops are attached to the scabbard so that it can be easily fastened to a belt. This medieval sword is designed as a collector’s or decoration/display piece. Besides its quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as a prop, e.g. to complete your costume.

Prevent rust and corrosion by oiling your weapons regularly. Remove rust easily with black sandpaper. Remove burrs with a whetstone. Make sure you have removed all burrs before using a battle-ready weapon, as they can cause wounds.

Maintenance & care
Just as with weaponry, you can care for your shoes and leatherware by applying a little Ballistol after cleaning. This prevents the leather from drying out.

Tip: How to adjust the finish of your armour and weaponry
Luxurious (polished)- polish the steel with metal polish or toothpaste. You can even give the item a mirror-like polish. Test on a small surface first!
Handmade (matte)- soak the steel in cola for 40 minutes to 20 hours. Check regularly and treat with black sandpaper.
Antique (patinated) leave the steel to rust for some time in a damp environment, preferably outside. Remove the red layer of rust, to reveal the corroded top layer.

Please note. After finishing the product yourself, the warranty and return right expire. Celtic WebMerchant is not responsible for the obtained result."
