This brooch is a replica of a 10th century original excavated in Boge, Gotland, Sweden. The box or drum brooch was found almost exclusively in Gotland and was worn there between the 8th and 11th centuries by the Viking women of Gotland to fasten their hangerocs. Bead necklaces and other necklaces were often attached to these brooches.
