Product description

This high quality Viking seax is inspired by historical originals. It has a beautiful wooden grip. The composition of the grip catches the eye: the top is made of lighter wood and the bottom consists of a brass ring, three rings of dark wood, two bone rings with a geometric motif and six thin red rings. This variety of materials and colors provides a beautiful visual contrast. The blade is made from Damascus steel. This steel is named after the capital of Syria, Damascus, where the steel was invented. Damascus steel is a type of steel composed of two or more different steel types. A higher carbon steel and a milder steel are repeatedly forged and folded. This creates a special pattern in the blade. In the Middle Ages it was thought that this steel had magical properties. Modern fantasy series also use Damascus steel to portray magical steels, such as the Valyrian steel in Game of Thrones. Damascus steel combines the good properties of softer and harder steel, resulting in higher hardness, strength, durability and flexibility. The leather scabbard is richly decorated with brass fittings, small triangular and round motifs are imprinted in the fittings. It has three belt loops on a belt divider, which ensures that all three loops can be hung on the sheath in the best way possible. This allows you to position the sax well. The seax is sharp and suitable for practical use such as cutting wood, leather and other materials.

Prevent rust and corrosion by oiling your weapons regularly. Remove rust easily with black sandpaper. Remove burrs with a whetstone. Make sure you have removed all burrs before using a battle-ready weapon, as they can cause wounds.

Maintenance & care
Just as with weaponry, you can care for your shoes and leatherware by applying a little Ballistol after cleaning. This prevents the leather from drying out.

The original method of making Damascus steel from Wootz steel was lost in the modern era. Nowadays, the name Damascus steel is used as a generic term for pattern welded / laminated or melted steel made out of two or more different steel types.
